Alex Cohn – Managing Director

Ag Guard was founded in 2013 by Alex Cohn who has been involved in the agricultural finance and insurance markets since 2000. Alex’s affinity with agriculture started with his degree in Agricultural Business at Gatton College. He has since lived in numerous country towns and appreciates the day-to-day challenges facing the agricultural community.

After cofounding one of the largest insurance underwriting agencies, Rural Affinity, in 2006, Alex saw through his exposure to the insurance broking market, an opening for a network of committed and passionate insurance specialists all driven by the same core values with a desire and willingness to provide the best insurance service to farmers across Australia.

Alex is is responsible for the operations, marketing and business strategy for the company. Alex still drives across the country, meeting and assisting clients manage their insurance requirements.

Martin Birch – Technical Manager

Martin has family farming background in South Africa, his corporate experience includes Senior Management roles as a property banker Nedcor Investment Bank & Agricultural Advisor for Barclays Bank.

He also has agricultural broking experience in Australia. Most recently, Martin joined Ag Guard after 10 years experience as the Farm Product Manager in the Technical Division of Allianz Australia Insurance.

Martin will be responsible for managing our farm pack book of business and providing technical expertise for ongoing innovation at Ag Guard.

Terry Francis - Area Manager Northern

Terry joins the team after having spent 4 years in bulk fuel with Woodham Petroleum Services. He worked for Woodhams at both Walgett and Narrabri and he opened the new bulk facility in Narrabri and develop the business there. For 9 years prior Terry was Insurance Manager and Grower Services contact with Special One Insurance Brokers and Special One Grain in Walgett.

He has 25 years of experience in the insurance industry and holds an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services. He looks forward to re-engaging with the many farmers he knows in northern New South Wales.

Ingrid Argo – Office & Account Manager

Ingrid graduated in 1997 from Universtiy of Sydney with an agricultural economics degree. Ingrid has a very strong understanding of both agriculture and insurance and she is well regarded in the agricultural insurance industry. Ingrid manages all the office and administration work and is contact with growers on a daily basis.

Ingrid is instrumental to ensuring that Ag Guard’s reputation for service and quality is second to none.

Erica Kirby – Finance Manager

Erica grew up in South Africa and lived in Europe for 10 years before moving to Australia in 1999. Her background is in Information Technology and has worked as an IT consultant for Oracle in both Europe in Australia.

Erica is responsible for the day-to-day finance functions.
